Presented by X Factor star Lauren Platt, CBBC’s Got What It Takes? is the first ever talent show where the mums are the judges!
Featuring eight talented 11-14 year-old hopefuls, the contestants – and their mums – undertake challenges against one another in a musical boot-camp, each one hoping to be crowned the star of the show and be given the once-in-a-lifetime prize of performing at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2016.
During each 30-minute episode, the young singers will also learn important lessons about the realities of the music industry and life as a ‘pop-star’ behind the glitz and glamour. Industry professionals and pop sensations are sprinkled across the series to deliver an inside scoop into the music business, and mentor contestants in the build up to the series finale.
In the first episode, David Tench, Music Director of The Voice, and S Club 7’s Bradley McIntosh, set the eight hopefuls a creative musical group challenge, which is fraught with opposing musical tastes and forgotten lines.
Meanwhile, the mums are met by the Games Guru, Kevin Adams, choreographer and personal trainer to the stars, who sets them an adrenaline-charged zorb ball challenge, to give the winner’s child another chance of showing off their talent.
After a raft of competitive stages, the destiny of the remaining young hopefuls is in the hands of their mums as they vote for their favourite singer; they must stay on top of their game to win the ultimate opportunity of performing at Radio 1’s Big Weekend!
